2010 SPRING AUSTRALIA INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE, FX-AU

SHORT FUZED OPPORTUNITY!

1. Dates: Expected dates are arrival 9April through departure NLT 26 April. Cadets interested in this exchange should submit their application based upon this announcement Don't wait. Additional details will follow.

2. General: The USNSCC is authorized to send up to two (2) cadets (male or female) and one escort. Other countries invited include Canada, the UK Netherlands, Hong Kong, Korea, India, Singapore, and other ISCA member nations. Site for this exchange is in and around Perth in Western Australia.

3. Training/Activities :

ADVENTURE TRAINING ACTIVITIES

Margaret River Excursion: Participate with Australia Navy Cadets in a three day adventure training camp in Western Australia's south west Margaret River region.

The adventure training camp will be led by Royal Australian Navy adventure training instructors from HMAS STIRLING and will incorporate abseiling, caving and kayaking activities.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

ANZAC Day: Attend the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at the Kings Park War Memorial and participate in the ANZAC Day march through Perth city, along with serving and retired Navy, Army, Air Force personnel, war veterans and dignitaries.

Old Perth Mint: Visit the Old Perth Mint, and experience a gold pouring demonstration.

Wildlife Park: Visit a wildlife park and enjoy seeing a number of Australian native animals. There will be opportunities to pet and feed the kangaroos and koalas.

Aquarium of Western Australia: Experience Australia's underwater wildlife including sharks, jellyfish and stingrays.

Maritime Museum: Visit the Fremantle Maritime Museum and its many exhibits and presentations on the maritime history of Western Australia.

Fremantle Prison: Visit the location of the last hanging in Western Australia and participate in the Late Night Torchlight Tour of the prison and tunnel system located underneath the prison.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Rottnest Island: Located just off the coast of Perth, Rottnest Island is a popular tourist spot. Cadets will have the opportunity to cycle around the island, visit the lighthouses, swim/enjoy the beaches, play mini golf, shop and sight see.

Fremantle Markets: Spend time at the famous Fremantle Markets. Cadets will have the opportunity to shop, eat and relax, as well as pick up authentic Australian souvenirs and snacks.

Enjoy an ice-cream from the famous Cold Rock Ice Creamery in Fremantle.

Margaret River Chocolate Company (Swan Valley): Taste some of Western Australia's finest chocolate, as well as seeing all the company's products being made!

Beach: Enjoy the opportunity to visit Perth's best beaches.

4. Qualifications: Sea Cadets applying for this exchange must meet the following requirements:
- Must be 16 or older on or before the start of training
- Must be PO2 or above, preference to senior cadets
- Must not have participated in this exchange before
- Recipient of the Cadet Citation Ribbon, or NSCC Commendation, or Meritorious or higher
- Recommended by unit Commanding Officer
- Able to be released from school/studies as this is during the school year for most cadets.
- Complete and submit application, following directions on application forms and include all listed materials. Go directly to iep.seacadets. org. Select Member Countries and click the instruction document for Australia to get information and instructions. The application and other forms needed are at this website. ISCA Forms 1 and 2, program application and indemnity and waiver will have to be completed by selected cadets right after notification. They too are at this web site.

5. Logistics/Costs: Federal funding support IS AVAILABLE for this exchange. NSCC cadet and escort travel costs to and from Australia WILL BE PAID FOR BY THE NSCC. NSCC will also subsidize Australian registration fees so that participating cadets fee will only be $300. Adult escort fee will be fully paid for. So, cadet costs will only be $300 plus spending money. Cost of any additional add on days in Australia will be at the expense of participants, and only as coordinated by the escort, and as made available by Australian Sea cadets. Cadets must have in their possession a passport in order to complete travel and enter Australia. Officers should be prepared to pay an extra $25 for wardroom fees. Again, all personal spending, as well as any extra tours at the end of the camp are at the expense of the participants. All coordination will be with your SEO once he or she is identified.

6. Application Procedures: NOTE: This exchange is advertised only by this 1 MC and the compass posting due to short lead times. There is a selection process and all applicants, both adult and cadet will compete for selection.

• A selection Board will convene as soon after 19 February as possible. The USNSCC has to provide attendee names and flight arrangements to Australia very shortly there after (that's why you have to have the package submitted not later than 13 February (that's on LCDR Campbell's doorstep 19 February)).

• SEO will be given Australian point of contact name, phone, and e-mail for final coordination; SEO to keep cadets advised.

7. COTC/Senior Escort Officer: To be identified.

8. Other. ISCA Forms 1 and 2, program application and parental release/indemnity forms, must be completed right after selection and be provided to SEO for further forwarding to the Australian Sea Cadet Corps prior to reporting. Further details regarding the exchange, as provided by the Australian Sea Cadet Corps, will be provided to the SEO who in turn will keep cadets apprised.
